If
we have a glance at the area map of Thatta, we will see a spot containing all
the historical, cultural, archaeological, and natural beauties, which is named
as Makli, a branch of Khirthar Mountain. On the end of these mountains are the
names like Kuro, Darrihiaro, and Khirthar which gets a shape of a junction at
its end in District Dadu of Toung. Different hills are originated from this
junction named Kanbhoo, Soorjannu, Denar, Kohistan and Lakki range a part of
this mounding range leads towards Makli as well as towards the South and West of
Sindh. Whereas, the end of the Kohistan range reaches in North East of Lakki. Map
describes Makli as a remote branch of Khirthar Mountain, which passes from
North to Samoi and ends at Pir Patho.
In the past there were two branches of the Indus River: one from South
East and one from the Eastern direction towards the East South. This stream of the Indus river used to flow from North to East. It is the very flow of the river Indus
which flowed from Chiliya to North Makli and Samoi. This stream used to pass
from Gharo (60 km in East of Karachi) and was destined in Sea, near Bhambhor.
Sasui Punhoo, a love story belonging to Sindh is believed to have taken place in
this place, viz. Bhambhor locality. The mentioned stream dried up in the early
nineteenth century. Nowadays, in these areas, there are only wetlands or lakes
which are also gradually drying up. Among these include: Makli, Kalkan, and
Bakhar (also known as Mahasar in old times)
